Einstein was right

 Scientists who suggested neutrinos could travel faster than light conceded  that Einstein was right and the sub-atomic particles are like everything else bound by the universe's speed limit. 

Researchers working at  CERN caused a storm when they published experimental results showing the particles could out-pace light by some six kilometres (3.7 miles) per second. 

The findings threatened to upend modern physics and smash a hole in Albert Einstein's 1905 theory of special relativity, which described the velocity of light as the maximum speed in the cosmos. 

The neutrinos were timed   from CERN's giant underground lab near Geneva to the Gran Sasso Laboratory in Italy, after travelling 732 kilometers (454 miles) through the Earth's crust. 

 The neutrinos should have taken 0.0024 seconds. Instead, the particles were recorded as hitting the detectors in Italy 0.00000006 seconds sooner than expected. 
The initial findings had been greeted with a combination of excitement and skepticism.

Air is more toxic in kitchen than in streets

Using a gas cooker in  kitchen could expose you to higher levels of toxic pollutants than roaming in a smoke filled streets.
Researchers from the Sheffield University in the UK found that indoor air pollution in airtight kitchens can be three times more noxious than traffic-choked streets.

The researchers compared three homes - a rural house split into two flats and used electric cookers and two other city centre apartments using gas appliances.
The scientists took air quality samples from outside and inside the homes over a four-week period, and found that only very low traces of highly-toxic carbon monoxide in the kitchen of the rural house, but levels were much higher in the flats where the gas ovens were turned on.

The gas cookers were a significant source of nitrogen dioxide, with concentrations in the city centre flat's kitchen three times higher than those recorded outside the property and well above the limits recommended, they said.

How Shark Skin increases Fuel Efficiency??

It is quiet fascinating to design an aerodynamic, high energy efficient and more fuel efficient aircrafts which holds the key for saving energy and it has been time to involve the oceans oldest predator ‘shark’ in the design of these aircrafts.

     Germany’s biggest airlines Lufthansa took an initiative for trails of shark skin paints on their airbuses. Some rough estimations for engineers said that if an aircraft was covered by 40-70% of shark skin paint, it could reduce the fuel consumption by 1%.

     The sharks skin is covered in tiny riblets that reduce turbulent vortices and drag they cause and thereby reducing the surface resistance when moving at high speeds. This phenomenon of stream line shark skin had been known for about 30 years and it is found in various applications in diverse fields like aeronautics, military aircraft designs and development of high swimsuits.

NEW TECHNIQUE TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY FROM BACTERIA

Bacteria is very useful in generating electricity by using devices known as microbial fuel cells(mfc).The device has an anode and cathode which are connected and during the breathing process of bacteria they release electrons as a part of metabolism  on to the anode. These electrons when directed towards a closed path constitute an electric current.

     These MFC’s has to be filled with mud,sewage,waste and we should wait for the growth of bacteria. These bacteria will not use any intermediate in transferring the electrons to the anode. In turn they touch the anode .For this they are having filaments which directly transfer electrons .such filaments are called nanowires.When billions of bacteria combine they form conductive biofilms which transfer the electrons. These MFC’s find good scope in bioremediation where microorganisms are used to remove pollutants.
